3D Work from the Semester

Here is some 3D work from the semester I thought i'd put up.
      - The Clock Plant thing is for a still life project in our intermediate 3D class.
      - The desk is a 3D model that I made for the current senior film called "Chasm."

This still needs some love and attention. I plan on working more
with the textures and adding more things to make the clock feel more
like it's falling apart. My Friend also suggested more leafage and rootage,
which will be good as well. Oh and there are seeds floating! haha
Your thoughts?

Just Call Me Cow of the Morning

If anyone knows the reference, I will be sorely amazed, AND I'll draw a caricature or something for you.

I know what your thinking. "What the cow!?" and probably also "well it's about time Jarom, thought you were dead." I feel like I am. Animation stuff has claimed my soul for a while. I'm actually in the process of recreating my blog. It will have a new url and everything. So i'll keep you posted.

Cheers Y'all

The Red Baron!

I decided to paint the Red Baron camp host. I think what I liked the most about this guy was that he dressed and acted the way he wanted irregardless of what others might have thought. I don't think he ever took those goggles off! The guy had a mission and he was confident in himself.

Ok I've been thinking about the direction I wan't to go with this blog and my art, and I really want to start including you all in it more. I find that the best inspiration comes when I talk to people, hear their thoughts, ideas, and unique perspectives on life and such. So I want to hear from you. I'm going start posting more than just doodles. I'm going to post art to make you think (hopefully) and I'll ask questions, throw out interesting thoughts and see what you have to share.

So First question regarding this picture: Who in your life is like the Red Baron? They aren't affected by social norms. They are just themselves in a unique and embarrassing yet very awesome way. You don't have to say names, just what it is that really makes them stand out from the crowd.

Something Stood Out

I saw this when I was camping with my parents and it really stood out to me for some reason. The fact that it was the only dead tree surrounded by living ones made it seem like it was an outcast, or a condemned tree about to be sacrificed or something. I saw this whole little short film flash in my mind of this all happening, coupled with intense music that builds up to the climax of course. Someday, this will happen.

Done in watercolor with my sweet niji watercolor brush pens!
The thumbnail is sideways by the way. (I can see you all tilting your
heads at your computers now. hee hee)

I loved how the tree looked like it was on fire.

Sketchbook Dump

So I've come to the realization that I suffer from Art ADD. I get excited about a project or an idea for a theme for the week, I stick to it for maybe a day, then I start doing something else. So I'm going to try and get back to the things I said I was going to do because I feel like consistency with certain things will help my progression. Anyway, here are some sketches I scanned from the past few weeks.

Evil Blue Jay. These birds are sweet
(from camping trip)

some dude in the cougareat.
great long face with hardly any chin

This was our camp host. My dad and I gave him the name.
We never saw him without his killer goggles and he always rode around
on his beefy green ATV, making sure there was order in his little kingdom.
(I'm going to do a redesign and redraw on this puppy)

People at the airport

Bee's Baseball game. Did they win? That doesn't matter.
and yes, there was an owl there, in the front. I don't know why

At my friend's mission farewell. Bishop, Ward Clerk
and Return Missionary.

Monkey, Kangaroo, Tiger....WIZARD!!

More color

There is so much to do and learn!! This is me just playing around. I'm trying to get a better feel for photoshop whilst learning about color. so much to do. This is a 68 Chevy Chevelle SS.

I'm gonna study color

I really don't understand color. So I'm going to start painting super botchy people from the Satorialist website, full of funkilly dressed homosapiens.

Watercolor?

So today I went out toward the lake and did some water color painting with my friend Chris.
Needless to say it has been quite some time since I've done this. Even though there is a lot wrong with them, I was most happy with these silos that we found. I want to get a lot better, because you can do so many things with it.

Anubis

This is a quick digital sketch of something I'm working on for my best friend Mike. :) I drew this using a Wacom Cintiq for the first time in the lab. It's one of those drawing tablets that you draw straight on the screen. I think I'll be spending a lot more time in the animation BFA lab for sure! By the way, in case you have not heard, I was accepted into the animation program. yay :)

The Animation Portfolio

Well, I finally did it. I submitted my animation portfolio! I feel like I was completely dead to the world this past week as I madly scrambled to pull all my work together. I learned a lot though, and I was blessed with the help of many thoughtful and loving friends. Thank You!

There's a Monster in my Closet

Man I'm just posting like crazy. I hope I can keep this up. I did this one pretty quickly. I think there are a few things I'll change with the composition, but i'm pretty satisfied with the two characters. I think this would be scarier than having a real monster in the closet! :)

This is the super final updated version. So much better than the first!!! :)

But if not...

This was inspired by church today. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were threatened to be cast into a furnace if they did not worship the kings gods. In reply, they said that they knew God had the power to deliver them from the fire, "But if not" or in other words, if He didn't deliver them, they would still believe in God and not worship the idols. True faith doesn't fail, even when things don't go our way.

A Disney Emulation

So I made these for my sister-in-law's sister's bridal shower. I had to post them on the blog because I feel they turned out pretty well. If you don't know the reference, shame on you! Go watch Tangled now! :) Enjoy

Doing the Research

So I've recently purchased a sketchbook whose pages are thick enough to hold watercolor. It's the best thing since .... socks? Anyway, as an artist, it is important to do studies, researching for your projects. This increases your knowledge and understanding and therefore makes your artwork believable and beautiful. So here are some sketches. :)

...and the legend was born in the wild land.

This was the final theme for our final project in my drawing for animation class. I'm definitely seeing a style come out of me that is pretty recognizable. I want to start exploring different styles, approaches and techniques. Anyway, I won't say what this picture is about, I'm curious to hear what you see. So give me some feedback ya'll.
