The Red Baron!

I decided to paint the Red Baron camp host. I think what I liked the most about this guy was that he dressed and acted the way he wanted irregardless of what others might have thought. I don't think he ever took those goggles off! The guy had a mission and he was confident in himself.

Ok I've been thinking about the direction I wan't to go with this blog and my art, and I really want to start including you all in it more. I find that the best inspiration comes when I talk to people, hear their thoughts, ideas, and unique perspectives on life and such. So I want to hear from you. I'm going start posting more than just doodles. I'm going to post art to make you think (hopefully) and I'll ask questions, throw out interesting thoughts and see what you have to share.

So First question regarding this picture: Who in your life is like the Red Baron? They aren't affected by social norms. They are just themselves in a unique and embarrassing yet very awesome way. You don't have to say names, just what it is that really makes them stand out from the crowd.

  1. My Dad shared an interesting thought yesterday. He said that you are never truly free in this life until you become free from the thoughts of others. In other words, when we stop worrying about what others are thinking about us, we can be free to be ourselves.

  2. This is a very golden bit of information from your Dad--he is a golden child (no, I still have not seen that movie). EVEN MORE GOLDEN THAN MY ARM HAIRS (that's really golden). I think that I am mostly free from the thoughts of others. I find that it's hard for me to free myself from the thoughts of those that I care for the most because I am afraid that I will do something wrong to scare them away. I mean, I can be fully myself, but when it comes to showing that I care, I get afraid that the affection that I show won't be reciprocated. This sometimes even happens with my interactions with my family. I just need to work on that. Yah.

But I know a few people like this. My Dad doesn't care what people think. He's hilarious and laughs at his own jokes and stuff. He brushes rude comments aside. He loves performing music for others. He wears socks, sandals, hawaaiin shirts, and shorts year-round (except for at work :)). He's definitely a dad. ahaha. But the best thing about my Dad is that he just loves people. He doesn't judge them....most of the time. But this is fine.

Also, do you remember that fantastic black man in our ward during winter semester? I don't know if you ever got to know him very well, but I am sure you were touched by his sunshine---there was no escaping his sunshine. He's SO free. He doesn't wear clothes that defy the social norm, but he wears things that he is comfortable in--things that reflect his inside. He reached out to so many people, and sometimes he'd be crazy in ways that made people uncomfortable, but this is fine. He loves everyone and everyone loves him. SO THERE!!! :)

Anyway, this is a great drawing. I ESPECIALLY love the texture in the pants and boots. The core on the arms turned out really nicely. The colors are unified in a beautiful way. The chest hairs are ENCHANTING. I love the way his ears stick out, and I love the bulbous nose--that's my favorite part of his face. I really feel it.
Also, you did well to capture the confidence this character had. Way to go! :)
