Port-Folio February

Ok so February is almost over, but I'm going to have this topic carry over because that is basically all that I'm doing with my life. I apply to the Animation program at the end of this semester and I am working on some new finished products to put in my application portfolio. This picture was an assignment in Drawing for Animation. The topic was a kid and his/her imaginary friend. Hope you enjoy and think back to when you had an imaginary friend of your own, unless you still have one...... which is fine..... for you.... :)

  1. I think it turned out really well. Markers ARE hard, but you seem to know what you are doing. I really like the comforter on the bed. Everything looks great---the bear, etc. The design of the boy and the bear are very nice. I fee like the shading on the boy's face needs a little adjustment to describe his form more. The shading on the bear is beautiful but a little part of it doesn't describe his shape the way it should. I don't know, maybe if you darkened the parts where he is white just a little bit more it'd help. But the values are beautiful and I love the composition!

  2. ooh great feedback. Thanks a ton! I will play around with the bear some more. It's definitely one thing to make a fun and cool drawing/character, but an entirely different thing to say "ok now make sense of this character in 3D space!" You definitely can't treat your creations lightly.

  3. I love the bear! I wish I had him as an imaginary friend! I had to laugh at the bow and arrow, they totally rock! Also, my eye was really drawn to the dresser and the floor because of the amount of detail, I really enjoyed how it felt on my eyes (weird to say, I know). Something that might improve the drawing (I've never used markers before so my hat is off to you!) is adding a bit more detail to the boy and bear, maybe... adding some detailing to the bears fur, or giving him more expression in his face (which I love by the way)same with the boy. I don't know if that is all making sense, but over all it is an awesome piece! Keep it up!

  4. I absolutely love this! I love your imagination! Your description made me giggle too :) ha One thing I would like to see is a little more strain from the bed. It's a teddy bear, yeah, but it's a really BIG teddy bear! Just a bit more exaggeration would add more "life" I think. :)
