Port-Folio February

Ok so February is almost over, but I'm going to have this topic carry over because that is basically all that I'm doing with my life. I apply to the Animation program at the end of this semester and I am working on some new finished products to put in my application portfolio. This picture was an assignment in Drawing for Animation. The topic was a kid and his/her imaginary friend. Hope you enjoy and think back to when you had an imaginary friend of your own, unless you still have one...... which is fine..... for you.... :)

More Marker and Ink

Here's a few random drawings that I've done in my sketchbook and such in the past week or so. The sabertooths are from a small dino museum near campus. They let me try out their little dirt sculptor tool on a slab that had some bones in it in the back room! It was so much fun. I think that will be my alternate career choice. Dirt Sculpting!!

and I just noticed a bad tangent with the tail and back leg. Ah! :)

A Charly Harper Emulation

This is an emulation assignment based on the work of Charly Harper. If you haven't heard of him, you should check out his work. He does very very simplified interpretations of animals almost to the point that they would fall apart as random shapes if he pushed it any further. He is amazing in the way he is able to keep it all together, though, and still make his designs readable, almost from first glance. Mine is a viper fish, slightly combined with some attributes of a lantern/angler fish. Our assignment was Deep Sea.

Monster In Your Closet

An assignment in my animation class to make a designer toy design with a "monster in my closet" theme. Based on feedback from friends on facebook I decided a centipede snake-like guy would be a good choice for creepy/scary. Sorry Adam it isn't female!

Sketchbook Update

I've really been enjoying learning to simplify my drawings into basic shapes in my drawing for animation class. We've been talking about line and shape mostly. It's amazing how the simpler you go, the better things can look.

That was our first assignment regarding the creative process and creating something that a client would like by asking specific questions and doing your research.

Hey, it's been a while. I got slammed by that thing called figuring out your school schedule. Here is a cover I made for a book that a cooworker is writing. For January we will call it "Ink and Marker Mayhem Month!!!" I'm in a drawing for animators class and we will be making a lot of finished ink works with marker shading. I hope to create some sweet things this semester.
